From the ambiance and textures of Sigur Rós, to the unfettered exploration of Björk, there is a fundamental willingness to avoid the norm and create something unique from the bottom up. Ólafur Arnalds probably sits somewhere closer to the former rather than the latter – he toured with Sigur Rós in the mid 2000’s – but he still has a distinct sound. His new album For Now I Am Winter is due out later this year via Mercury Classics.
